The Crue MIPS delivers classic style and park-worthy performance for young shredders. It features the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (which can provide more protection in certain impacts), durable Hard Shell construction, ample venting, and now updated with our In Form Fit System.
HELMET CONSTRUCTION - MIPS - Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. Hard Shell construction produces great helmets at great value. A rugged outer shell is formed and then attached to the EPS foam liner.
FIT SYSTEM - Auto Loc 2 Fit System is a durable self-adjusting fit system designed to take the hassle out of fitting a helmet. A supple elastic fit band at the back of the helmet merges with fixed-position straps, which adjust to cradle your head when you set the system to one of the 3 different circumference settings. The new On-the-fly Vertical Tuning feature helps to dial in your fit and goggle set up without removing your helmet.
VENTILATION - Stack Vent in the front of the helmet which aligns with your goggles and helps to keep them clear and fog free. The Super Cool Vents on the top of the helmet allows the hot air to escape.
SEAMLESS COMPATIBILITY WITH ALL GIRO YOUTH GOGGLES - Giro products have been meticulously designed and tested to work together. We've fine-tuned the pairings of our helmets and goggles using exhaustive testing in our Dome R&D center and translating those findings into the perfect Seamless Compatibility fit. We recommend Giro Chico 2.0 Toddler Goggles for Crue MIPS Size XS. We recommend Giro Buster and Stomp Youth Ski Goggles for Crue MIPS Size S and M.
FEATURES - MIPS. Removable goggle retainer. Removable ear pads. Compatible with aftermarket Giro audio systems by Outdoor Tech.
I bought the lime green and the pink, both were a matte color. I really love that the lime color has a print strap and because it's a collaboration it has a cute owl on it. My daughter claims that they were both really comfortable, but we ended up keeping the lime one as we felt the color would be more versatile over the years. She's 7 and we bought the small, which is what the size chart recommended and we will turn the wheel as she grows. The only thing that this helmet doesn't have and I wish it did is that the top vents are just "open" and you cannot close them. I understand that for this pricepoint it is what it is, but that's the only thing I didn't realize when purchasing. That being said we did use a turtlefur baclavaca under the helmet because it was 4 degrees (F) out and I heard zero complaints of being cold because of the vent or of any discomfort. My daughter stayed warm the whole time and I felt a lot more comfortable knowing MIPS was there for when she fell. I'm really glad I made this purchase and will be buying myself the same in the adult size.I ordered three different cheaper ski helmets on amazon, and they either were really uncomfortable, broke before I could wear them, or fit terribly. In my frustration, I finally decided to spend a bit more $$ and get a higher end helmet. I have Giro ski goggles already that were really comfortable, so decided to get a helmet also. I have no regrets. I tried it out for the first time yesterday! It was 10 degrees F and this kept my head toasty warm the entire day on the slopes! I fell only once, but in that tumble, I hit the back of my head. It didn't hurt for a second! This helmet totally protected me!! I know for a fact, had I not been wearing it, I'd have a nasty bump on the back of my head! It's SUPER comfortable to wear - even with 13 ear piercings! I've no regrets for a single second, only that I didn't purchase this one in the first place!UPDATE: Jan 29, 2018: Second season of use and it still works great for our now 5yo boy! This Giro Crue helmet in size XS fits our 4yo boy just fine - his head is measured at about 49cm. And it should work for him for another 2 years, hopefully.Fitment adjustment is done by repositioning of inner plastic frame which is secured into integrated slots hidden under soft lining. Also there is a peice of stretchable soft strap at the back of the frame which additionally helps to secure the helmet. This entire plastic frame peice is called Auto Lock 2 Fit System and it is removable, leaving only soft lining attached. Soft lining is kept attached by Velcro and is also removable for easy cleaning/washing.This helmet model features MIPS technology (multi-impact protection system), which is basically an extra layer of protection on top of what ordinary helmets can offer. It was a pleasant surprise to find that ear pads soft insert is *actually removable* - see provided photos. Once ear pads peice is removed the helmet converts into a bike/scate/roller helmet for use in warmer weather.Bright yellow-green neon color of the helmet should be visible from far away and is good for additional customization by applying stickers or stripes patterns for easy identification in a crowd among other young shredders.Given all the properties I described above and price tag belove $50, to me this model is the best value among all kids helmets for snow sports as well as other sports thanks to removable ear pad lining.Bought for grandson. Loves the color. Fits goodFits my little guy well enough this year at 2.5, and should be large enough to use for a couple more winters with the adjustments. Wish it had a way to cover the vent holes.I'm an adult with a child sized head and a wreckless boyfriend so I needed this helmet for chasing after him on the slopes. Took a few falls and I felt the helmet adjust with the impact. No concussions and my falls didn't slow me down or end my ski tripsGreat color, good fit. My kid loves it.Love this helmet! I'm an adult and the small helmet actually works perfectly for me. I barely even notice it's on my head. It kept me dry from the snow and rain, it wasn't too hot for spring skiing, and it also kept me toasty during chilly, windy days. It's the best fitting helmet I tried on (and I tried on a LOT of helmets first), the MIPS is definitely a plus, and I'm really happy I purchased it! Great buy!
