As an adult buying kids shoes, I wasn't worried about all the reviews saying that these were too heavy for their children to wear. I probably should have been. These things are heavy, but not too heavy to wear for a few hours. This is the only pair of snow boots I've ever owned/worn, so take that into account for my opinions. The closure thing is not as secure as I would have liked it to be; it felt like the foot area was comfortably snug (with thick socks) but the ankle area was loose and could not be fixed by tightening the string thingy because it would simply come undone again. I suspect this isn't a problem with children who are less picky about fit (which is who this item is intended for). On the bright side, they are certainly comfortable to use that one time a year I go snow tubing, and the purple color is fabulous!
